Verizon WAP Hackers Must Read: New $1.99/MB Charge

Verizon will be issuing new calling and data plans that take effect in November 2007. The most important change to note for those out there using the WAP hack is that there will no longer be a minutes only web access plan, and that any type of data connection will now be subject to a $1.99/MB charge. Here are the new plans displayed on phone arena.

If you act quickly you can add the $5/mo mobile web plan before the new plans take effect. This option will be discontinued, but if you already subscribe your service will be grandfathered in as long as you keep your current plan. I still suggest you keep your WAP hack intact if you use a proxy and not just the wap.google hack. A proxy with cookie support adds enough extra benefits to make it worth the extra trouble, the ability to check your gmail on your cell phone is worth the trouble by itself!

Verizon to unveil Venus & Voyager

Verizon is about to announce a series of new cell phones, adding to their current offerings among them will be the LG Voyager vx10000 and the LG Venus vx8800. I assume the countdown here is to an official announcement and that the phones are coming and maybe we’ll get release dates. Now that we have the real names I thought it’d be a good idea to pull together all the links for easier use:

These look like nice phones and the Samsung and Blackberry Pearl don’t look to shabby either, this is the first batch of touchscreens from LG, I think they’ll become pretty standard and hopefully all the bugs will have been worked out in the test and field test units.

More vx8800 Info and Pictures

Well it looks like it’s a cell phone dominated week here, the members over at HowardForums are really cranking out the pre-release info! This time it’s from FAUguy, a contributor over at PhoneArena. First the info, confirmed a 2MP camera and, like the vx10000, no flash. The back of the phone has a leather like finish that should give it an interesting look but more importantly, give it better grip in your hand, sitting in your car, or just sitting on the table while you use the scroll feature on the new touchpad portion of the front screen. Here are a few of the pics he posted, make sure to see the previous vx8800 post for more:
