tipjoyTipJoy is a new service that allows users to leave small tips for content that they love. Once you have signed up for TipJoy you can leave a $0.10 tip with a single click and never leave the site!

To learn more about TipJoy make sure to read our interview with the CEO.

If you have a TipJoy.com account and you would like to add a Tip Button to each of your Wordpress posts then I’ve got the plugin for you! I should note that I’m learning PHP and this is my first attempt at a plugin, so fair warning. Also, this is free so support will be spotty to non-existent. Hey, thanks for a great plugin! But I have a couple of issues with it:

First; It doesn’t display the tip this button for the posts on the front/archive pages, only on the post page itself. Now I’m not sure if I even want it to, but it would be great to have the option.

Second; As you can see for example on this blogpost your plugin can create a little mess. It would be nice to have to textfields where I could input HTML code that should be added before and after the button.

Third; An option to have the button displayed on the right hand side of the page, like I’ve done manually here (before I knew about your plugin).

And lastly: I’d prefer it if I could either remove the “[?]” or if it linked to a page that actually explained what TipJoy is to people that doesn’t know about it, and thus have no idea what that “Tip This” button does.

I hope I’m not too late to be in the contest, and that I still am even though I post my comments here instead of on the contest post. I thought it would be better for you to have all comments related to the plugin here.. :)

It’s not at all too late for the contest, and thanks for the feedback! You’ll get an email with your coupon code soon!

1 - The EVERYTHING option will put the buttons on the front page, but i checked and they aren’t on the archive, so everything isn’t really true. I’ll look into it and at least make the wording better.

2 - I think I fixed the mess or at least altered it’s composition - if you’ll download and try version 0.9.5 and let me know how it goes

3 - I had thought of that too, if you have 0.9.4 then you have a sidebar widget that will add the Tip This banner. If your theme supports widgets you can drag the Tip This widget on to your sidebar by going to Presentation=>Widgets in your admin panel.

4- I’ll have a better landing page for that when the plugin is officially published, but you’re welcome to dive into the code and find the [?] and remove it or alter it’s destination to a TipJoy.com URL. Be careful of commas/semicolons if you delete it.

Thanks again for the feedback it’s much appreciated!

I installed the plugin and it seems to work fine. However, the tip icon doesn’t appear in my RSS feed. Any suggestions?

Hey Prof! Thanks for the feedback, glad it’s working well for you. I see the buttons in your feed and mine, it may have required the ‘Everything’ option to be on. Better customization is something that I’ll have to add.

Nice plugin. Not bad for a PHP beginner :)
